I am often asked: "Why i do not rely on the Hadith/Sunnah as my guidance for the deen?" And then often followed with an explination that they are needed to explain in detail what the Quran does not. I am going to explain using the following verses: 2:67 and remember Moses said to his people: "Allah commands that ye sacrifice a heifer." They said: "Makest thou a laughing-stock of us?" He said: "Allah save me from being an ignorant!” 2:68 they said: "Beseech on our behalf Thy Lord to make plain to us what it is!" He said; "He says: The heifer should be neither too old nor too young, but of middling age. Now do what ye are commanded!" 2:69 they said: "Beseech on our behalf Thy Lord to make plain to us her color." He said: "He says: A fawn-colored heifer, pure and rich in tone, the admiration of beholders!" 2:70 they said: "Beseech on our behalf Thy Lord to make plain to us what she is: To us are all heifers alike: We wish indeed for guidance, if Allah wills." 2:71 He said: "He says: A heifer not trained to till the soil or water the fields; sound and without blemish." They said: "Now hast thou brought the truth." Then they offered her in sacrifice, but not with good-will. What was the first thing they were told to do? Sacrifice a heifer correct? Yes Is that a very simple command and easy to understand? Yes Note : just like Allah says about the Quran What happened next? They could not accept the simplicity of the command, They asked for more detail about the heifer. The Prophet then tells them; "He (Allah) says: The heifer should be neither too old nor too young, but of middling age. And then said...Now do what ye are commanded! “ Again simple and direct, and now enforced and commanded. Then what happened? They could not accept the simplicity of the command, They asked for more detail about the heifer, again. Then what happened? They asked again for more detail. And even yet again for a fourth time, then they questioned his honesty. And after they finally sacrificed the cow. the last verse ends with this comment: “Then they offered her in sacrifice, but not with good-will.” After all of that instruction they were still not content! This example was given by Allah in the book/Quran. I understand it as an example of why and how Sunnah/Hadith came about, and how it will leave you unsure and unhappy no matter how much of it you have until you go back to the simplicity and direct commands from Allah in the book/Quran. Establish Salat, The following of Allah through the reading and pondering and implementation in our daily lives of the Kitab is a direct representation of the first command slaughter a cow. The other request of details are the Sunnah/Hadiths because people could not comprehend, respect, grasp the simplicity and directness of the Kitab, or of course as Allah warns us in the Kitab that there are those who explicitly want other than the Quran. They were too afraid to think for them self and worried that the simplicity would cause them to err. Even after all the detail they were not satisfied or did they fully believe his word was enough. This simple mistake in thinking throughout history opened the flood gates for the leaders of the day with malcontent or agendas outside of the Kitab/Quran to establish Imams and scholors and the like to teach and explaine the Quran via teaching outside the Quran such as the Hadith and Sunnah amongst the most popular ways along with changing the translations of the Kitab/Quran. In every verse above the example shown about the people was: "you tell us what to do, we do not want to read ponder and seek the Guidance of Allah for ourselves". Do not be the sheep and follow the heard blindly. think for yourself and question everything with the Kitab, if what you hear is not from the Book then compare it to the Book and confirm if it is true or not. Allah has given us his warning! Why is it when we go to a Mosque the focus is always on Haadith and Sunnah, when someone who follows Sunnah/Hadith says you are a sinner and you ask them to show you proof in the Book, what do they do? where do they go? They will not even open the Quran they will go to the Imam, or scholar, why? Because, in most cases they have been programmed that the book/Quran is difficult and needs to be explained in more detail by someone who has studied the book/Quran and Sunnah/Hadith. in short they do not read or study or ponder the verses of the Kitab/Quran them selves. Allah says in the book/Quran to all mankind we are responsible to read it and ponder the verses and Ask Allah for guidance every day. How can anyone judge another let alone think they understand Islam if they cannot even give the effort to follow the simple instructions Allah gave them? Oh, Yeah, because if they dont read the book they will never know. This is why it is so explicit in the Quran that it is perfect, Simple and easy, anything other than the book/Quran and it is clear what happens. 3:144 And Muhammad is no more than a bearrer of the Message; those have already passed away before him; if then he dies or is killed will you turn back upon your heels? And whoever turns back upon his heels, he will by no means do harm to Allah in the least and Allah will reward the grateful. It is very clear in verse that the Prophet was not to change a thing in book/Quran other than revealed to him or suffer a severe punishment and those who do not follow what the Prophet followed (the book/Quran) after he is gone will indeed be missled. Anything The Prophet did outside of the book/Quran was and is his own, it was not and has never been meant to be followed outside of the book/Quran or it would have been in the book/Quran. I have not found one verse Arabic or otherwise that says follow Prophet Mohammed Sunnah. Not one. If you know of one then please share it. This does not mean one that has words in () brackets as we know that this is also someone else’s interpretation and can change the ture meaning of the verse that Allah intended. Everything that was meant for us to know and follow of the Prophet is in the book/Quran, it is clearly lables as "SAY" everywhere you see this you are reading the Prophets sunnah as was givin to him by Allah. As i learn, I adjust and share and keep on learning.May Allah guide me and teach me untill he takes me. Muslim Mike
